Perplexus, a great 3D maze toy
Dave was nice enough to let me play with his perplexus, which I really liked. As a kid, I was playing with various ball maze toys, wether they're a labyrinth-based or full of different kind of traps, but this one is just way better !

At first, I was disappointed by the perplexus: too big and feeling not very sturdy.
But with the amount of traps inside, it would be impossible to play if smaller, and probably too heavy if made with a different material.
So in the end, it's very good. Maybe I'd just wish now it was harder and longer :D

After spending a lot of time with it, I made a small review, and a complete walkthrough.

Needless to say, if it wasn't that good, I'd never have bothered making a complete walkthrough.

my improved crêpes (french pancakes) recipe
5 eggs, 500 gr of flour, 1l of milk - which gives 20 crêpes.
Pour the flour, break the eggs, mix while adding milk.
Mixing progressively looks easier, but pouring all the milk at once and then struggle with mixing also works.
Mix well (really), then let the mix stay still (for, say, one night), so it will stay smooth, for thinner crepes, and less hassle.

I only oil the pan for the first one, after it's not needed (non-sticky pan).
Pour some oil on the hot pan, make it spread all over, then remove the extra oil with a sheet of kitchen paper.

To cook, the pan must be hot enough (4 out of 6), otherwise it's hard to flip it, or it burns.
When you pour your mix, make sure the pan is steep, otherwise it will start cooking before spreading.
You don't necessarily need to flip the crepes in the air - it's not very hard though and you get a lot of success with kids - you can use a spatula.

Eat them with:
nutella
nutella + marmelade
chestnut spread (french)
sugar + lemon (sugar first)
lemon curd
sugar + rum/cointreau/grand marnier (+ make them flambée)

salmon + whipped cream cheese
salad + cheese slice + ham

Focus on the outer part when spreading, otherwise the crepe might be dripping or difficult to eat, and the center will still be good as you fold it.

Go-style game graphics
In 1996, I did the graphics under Photoshop 3, for a board game, as a student project. Sadly, the project itself had to be done in ADA under linux. Moreover, they were expecting a textmode game, with no graphics nor interface - we had to hack in mouse support, convert every graphical object to XBM, so the game itself is lost for ever - not the last screenshots !

graphismes d'un jeu genre go

translation of a french song about young fathers

I translated this song from french group Fatal Picards (fatal = deadly, Picardie is an lesser known area of France) that shows the possible state of mind of young fathers...

it's originally called "Dors, mon fils" (Sleep, my son)

Sleep now
Sleep my son
Sleep now
Sleep my son

It's now three months that you make us live in hell
Without warning us, you made your mum three tons bigger,
Before she was listening to Led Zeppelin, was a goddess
Now she is just a balloon that listens only to Henri Dès
Our social life is ruined, we only talk to parents
My best friends gave me an appointment in ten years
Sex, I do not know what it is now,
Her breasts, only you touch them, all the time

It's five o'clock in the morning and I must get up to seven
I actually preferred that you finish me with a machete

Sleep now
Sleep my son
Sleep now
Or I call the militia

And perhaps they will make you chew gum
But with the foil
And maybe they will slide under your nails iron spikes
Or maybe they will just put sand under your eyelids

You understand what it is not to close your eyes since the day before
If you do not sleep right away, this is not the kind fairy that I will call

<...>

And when you're teen, I swear, you will suffer.
I will make you eat fat to make sure you have acne
And if despite all this, you bring a girlfriend
I show her where you hide your magazines

It is six o'clock in the morning within an hour I will go to the city hall.
I'm going to change your name to something nasty
